About this edition

The 9th Balkan Championship opened on 5 October at the Vereya complex with 18 teams from Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, England, Serbia and Macedonia. For the first time the 1st Balkan Youth Team Championship and the 1st Regional Youth Festival were played alongside it. The youth championship had 10 under-25 teams and was won by “Bulgaria 1”, who beat Turkey in the final.

The President of the European Bridge League, Yves Aubry, visited the championship. It was won by “Serdika”. That year the festival also had a fair-play prize named after Geno Solukov.
